Description
Italian SABAF Firepower in a 70cm Sweet Spot
Standard gas stoves in India use basic cast brass burners, which often struggle to deliver the intense, widespread heat required for heavy family cooking. Elica fundamentally upgrades this by equipping the Flexi Hexa 470 with highly advanced Italian SABAF Brass Burners. These premium burners mix LPG and oxygen with extreme precision, resulting in a hot, fuel-saving blue flame. Crucially, this 4-burner layout includes a massive 4.0 kW Jumbo Triple-Ring Burner. Housed in a perfectly optimized 70cm wide chassis, it offers commercial-grade firepower that engulfs large biriyani pots and heavy tawas, without demanding the massive counter space of a 90cm model.
The Flexi-Design: Built-In vs. Free-Standing
Historically, buyers had to choose between a standard gas stove that sits on top of the counter or a hob that requires cutting into the expensive granite. The Elica Flexi Hobtop brilliantly offers both. Out of the box, it features heavy-duty legs allowing it to sit completely flat on your kitchen slab like a traditional premium stove. If you eventually renovate your modular kitchen, you simply remove the legs and drop it directly into a pre-cut cavity for a seamless, ultra-modern flush finish.
Hexa-Shape Grids and 8mm Armor Glass
Glass-top stoves have earned a reputation for shattering under heavy Indian cookware. Elica counters this by utilizing ultra-thick 8mm toughened glass, which is heavily fortified against thermal shock. However, the real structural heroes are the Hexa-shaped Cast Iron Pan Supports. Unlike flimsy steel wires that push directly into the glass, these heavy, interlocking cast iron grids distribute the downward weight of massive pots evenly across the chassis frame, completely isolating the glass from stress and eliminating the risk of pressure-induced shattering.
Battery-Operated Auto-Ignition Discipline
The unit features a smooth, battery-operated multi-spark auto-ignition system, meaning you do not need a messy electrical plug point trailing across your kitchen slab. You simply push and turn the metallic knob, and the burner ignites instantly. However, this convenience requires strict hygiene discipline. If you allow starchy dal or milk to boil over and drown the burners, the liquid can short out the delicate ceramic spark plugs. You must immediately wipe up heavy spills around the ignition pins to maintain reliable spark generation.
Target Demographics: Is the Elica Flexi Hexa 470 Right For You?
Hovering in the premium ₹23,000 to ₹25,000 price bracket, this is a top-tier architectural upgrade designed for modern modular kitchens. It hits the “Goldilocks” zone—offering four SABAF burners in a highly practical 70cm width that fits into medium-sized kitchens without overwhelming the counter. If you demand the aesthetic elegance of a European built-in hob but require the heavy-duty firepower necessary for aggressive daily Indian cooking, this Elica unit is an uncompromising solution.
⚠️ Dealbreaker Alert: Built-In Cutting Dimensions & PNG Gas
If you intend to drop this hob into your granite counter (built-in mode), you must instruct your cutter to strictly follow the specific carcass cutting dimensions for the 470 model (approximately 665mm x 485mm). Do not guess these measurements. Additionally, this unit is factory-tuned for standard LPG cylinders. If your apartment relies on Piped Natural Gas (PNG), an authorized Elica technician must change the internal brass nozzles before use, or the flame will be dangerously low.
User Intent FAQ & Troubleshooting
What is the difference between the Elica 470 and 491 models?
The primary difference is the physical footprint. The Flexi Hexa 470 is approximately 70cm wide, making it perfect for standard to medium-sized kitchens. The Flexi Hexa 491 is an extra-wide 90cm model, designed for massive counters where you want maximum spacing between large pots. Both feature identical SABAF burners and Hexa cast-iron grids.
How do I change the battery for the auto-ignition?
The hob uses a standard 1.5V D-size (large cylinder) battery. The battery compartment is conveniently located on the underside of the chassis, easily accessible without having to lift the heavy glass top. Depending on daily usage, the battery typically lasts 8 to 12 months.
What does “Lotus” mean in the model name?
“Lotus” refers to the specific multi-ring flame pattern designed by Elica for the Indian market. It ensures that the fire spreads outward in a perfectly uniform circle across the base of your vessel, completely preventing the center-burning issues common with cheap direct-flame burners.

Test Kitchen Recommended Pairings
To safely install this premium 70cm built-in hob and maintain its immaculate glass and cast-iron components, we strongly mandate acquiring these essentials:
Steel Braided Hob Safety Hose (ISI)
Standard orange rubber pipes are notoriously dangerous when routing gas lines underneath a built-in counter. Upgrading to a rat-proof, steel-braided ISI safety hose ensures leak-free fuel delivery to your expensive SABAF burners.
✔ Mandatory Installation Upgrade
75cm/90cm Kitchen Exhaust Chimney
Because this hob measures 70cm wide, pairing it with a standard 60cm chimney will result in smoke bypassing the hood from the outer burners. You should pair this unit with at least a 75cm or 90cm chimney for total extraction.
✔ Essential Spatial Component
📊 Expert Editorial Summary: Is the Elica Flexi Hexa 470 Hob Worth It?
After extensive testing, the Elica Flexi Hexa 470 Lotus proves to be the ultimate premium solution for homeowners who want built-in elegance without sacrificing counter space. By housing identical SABAF burners and the massive 4 kW Jumbo ring inside a compact 70cm footprint, it delivers commercial-grade firepower that perfectly fits standard Indian kitchens. Elica elegantly solved the primary weakness of glass hobs by utilizing interlocking, heavy cast-iron Hexa grids that completely isolate the 8mm glass from downward pressure. While it requires a significant financial investment, its versatile built-in/free-standing design and massive 10-year burner warranty make it a flawless centerpiece for high-end modular renovations.
- ✦ SABAF Firepower: Premium Italian-engineered brass burners drastically improve fuel efficiency and eliminate lazy, yellow flames.
- ✦ Jumbo 4.0 kW Speed: The dedicated massive burner easily engulfs large biriyani pots, vastly reducing cooking times.
- ✦ Shatterproof Architecture: Heavy Hexa-shape cast iron grids absorb the weight of massive pans, protecting the 8mm glass from stress fractures.
- ✦ Unrivaled Warranty: Backed by a spectacular 10-year warranty on the burners and 5 years on the glass and internal valves.
Test Kitchen Showdown: Elica 70cm SABAF vs. Faber & Glen
Finding a 4-burner hob that delivers commercial-grade firepower without completely monopolizing your kitchen slab is a massive challenge. Most 4-burner hobs require a massive 90cm footprint. To see if the compact 70cm Elica Flexi Hexa 470 Lotus successfully balances spatial efficiency with extreme heat, we ran it head-to-head against a direct premium competitor—the Faber 75cm 4-Burner Hobtop (Brass)—and a high-end traditional option, the Glen 4-Burner Glass Stove.
During our side-by-side evaluations in our Kerala test kitchen, we focused on burner crowding and thermal output. We loaded heavy cast-iron kadhais and large 5-litre pressure cookers onto all three units simultaneously to test if a 70cm chassis could realistically support four active vessels. We fired up the Jumbo burners to measure water-boiling speeds and closely monitored the flame geometry to see if the SABAF “Lotus” design genuinely prevented center-burning on flat tawas.

Reality Check 1: The 70cm Spatial Sweet Spot
Standard 4-burner glass stoves like the Glen cram four burners into a 60-65cm chassis. When you place two large pots next to each other, they collide and sit lopsided on the burners, making the extra burners effectively useless. The Elica Flexi Hexa 470 expands this to a 70cm footprint. This extra width is the “sweet spot” for standard Indian kitchens—it allows you to simultaneously run a large biriyani pot on the Jumbo burner and a pressure cooker on the adjacent burner without collision, yet it doesn’t consume your entire prep counter like a massive 90cm hob would.
Reality Check 2: SABAF Firepower vs. Slow Boiling
European hobs are often criticized for being too weak for heavy Indian cooking. The Elica 470 completely obliterates this stereotype by integrating genuine Italian SABAF burners, including a massive 4.0 kW Jumbo ring. This provides an aggressive, roaring flame that spreads perfectly evenly across wide tawas. The Glen maxes out at standard large burners, which take significantly longer to heat commercial-sized vessels, while the Faber offers high output but lacks the precise “Lotus” flame geometry that prevents food from burning in the center of the pan.
Reality Check 3: The Flexi Installation Future-Proofing
Many homeowners want the sleek look of a built-in hob but are currently renting or not ready to cut their granite countertops. The Glen is strictly a free-standing unit. The Elica Flexi Hexa 470 (along with the Faber Hobtop) features a dual-purpose hybrid design. Out of the box, it comes with heavy rubberized legs, allowing it to sit elegantly on your slab like a premium traditional stove. Years later, if you renovate your kitchen, you can simply unscrew the legs and drop the exact same unit flush into a granite cutout, completely future-proofing your expensive investment.
🎯 The Definitive Buying Verdict
- Buy the Elica Flexi Hexa 470 (SABAF) if: You want the absolute maximum firepower (4.0 kW) and the elegance of a European built-in hob, but only have space for a 70cm footprint. The shatterproof Hexa grids and massive 10-year burner warranty make it a spectacular, lifetime investment.
- Buy the Faber 4-Burner Hobtop if: You want the heavy cast-iron durability and flexi-installation of a premium hobtop, but need to save ₹5,000 to ₹7,000, accepting slightly less maximum firepower and a shorter burner warranty.
- Buy the Glen 4-Burner Glass Stove if: You have a strict sub-₹10,000 budget and simply need a standard free-standing glass stove, and you are willing to manage the cramped pot spacing.

Its a great product and value for money. No brand is giving this amount power burners in this price range. Few negatives, no ease of clean, although all are same in this type.
Bought because of big power numbers. But now feel it must have one small burner. Because if u making dry veggies. U hv to stand by till it gets cooked and u keep stirring. Otherwise it gets burnt even if u keep it low.
Also the knobs are of very good quality.. but they do get hot due to heat. But not a deal breaker.
